Got out for a little while this morning. I fished my favorite spot in the middle of the river starting at 10am. For the First 2 hrs I had committed myself to using a curly q mono sighter that I had made for an indicator from some hi-viz 10lb.
It did work very well particularly in the slower moving currents. I picked up fish in places that I normally don’t using the sighter. Plus it’s an excellent shock absorber so you don’t have to worry about light tippets and hook sets.
I was fishing 2 brass bead dark pheasttail style nymphs in a #16. The pulse had shown up and brought some more didymo with it so I was trying to not be a deep as normal so I avoided the normal tungsten nymphs. Quite a few numbers of fish hit the nymphs on the swing at the end of the drift. I finished out the morning at 1pm having caught 24 fish with the last few coming from a orange soft hackle as the sulphur hatch was about to happen. I’m still not sold entirely on the curly sighter. I’m needing a thicker silicone to keep it up on top. More Later as the nymph and dry bite continues. I did miss a better fish this morning that came unbuttoned. But such is life fishing barbless flies.
